What is Podiatry?

PodiatryPodiatry (“podo” from the Greek meaning “foot”) is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower limbs.

Chiropody and chiropodists are concerned with the routine process of foot care, whilst podiatrists are fully qualified lower limb specialists, able to carry out routine treatments, administer local anaesthetics, perform nail surgery, prescribe certain medications and conduct bio-mechanical assessments (the study of the human walking cycle).
